{books} The Hunger Games

I finished reading The Hunger Games shortly after I started! I couldn’t put this book down. A major page turner. I have seen a ton of reviews of this book already but I am sure someone reading this hasn’t read it it yet. If so go get it now and read it! You can thank me later.

The book is set in Panem which used to be North America. The book is written in first person and follows the main character Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is a sixteen year old girl living in District 12, the coal district. Each year the Capitol (the government) chooses one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district to participate in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are shown on all televisions in every district. The chosen “tributes” are made to fight to the death until there is only one survivor.

It took me a while to decide to read this book because all of the summaries I read like the one I wrote above just sounded horrible. Why would I want to read about children killing one another? I finally caved and read it after hearing a ton of good things about it.  Also, I knew it was a Young Adult book so there couldn’t be too much gore plus my fourteen year old cousin was reading it for school. There are so many twists in the book that makes you want to know what happens next.

I can’t wait to read the other two books in the trilogy and see the movie! It comes out March 23, 2012.

Question:
  • Have you read the second and/or third books? If so, are they as good as the first?
