Perry’s Bridal Tea

This afternoon Perry had a bridal tea at church. The ladies at the church did a great job of putting everything together!

{books} Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

This post contains spoilers!

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, in my opinion, was a well written book. The story was intertwined with history which I really enjoyed. The introduction was a page turner. The author is given a stack of Abraham Lincoln's secret journals by Henry Sturges, a vampire.

The book is divided into three parts: Boy, Vampire Hunter, President. Abraham Lincoln learns about vampires and the part they played in killing his grandfather and mother. He decides he will hunt down and kill as many vampires as he can. On his first vampire hunt, Abraham is almost killed when Henry Sturges steps in and saves him. Henry is a vampire but has great plans for Abraham. Henry explains to Abraham about vampires and the differences between good and evil ones. Once Abraham is healed, Henry begins training him on how to kill vampires. After a whole summer with Henry he leaves and goes back home. Abraham receives letters from Henry with names and addresses of vampires for him to hunt down and kill.

After years of killing vampires he decides his family is too important to continue leaving them and risking his own life to kill vampires. Henry finally sends him a letter telling him it is time, if he comes to New York he will find out what Henry has had planned all along and why he has been sending him names of vampires to kill. Abraham packs up his family and heads to New York. In the middle of the night, Abraham gets dressed and follows the instructions of a note slipped under his door. On his way to the meeting place he can feel that he is being followed. He begins to speed up and so does the foot steps behind him. Abraham is knocked out and taken to a mysterious location. Once he comes to, he hears a familiar voice. It is Henry. He is in a room with other vampires and his assailants. Henry explains to him that the vampires in the south plan to start a civil war and enslave all of the humans in America.

After the war is over many of the vampires fled to South America and Asia. In celebration of this news, Abraham attended a play at Ford's Theater where he was assassinated by the actor and vampire, John Wilkes Booth.

Henry guards Abraham's grave and turns Abraham into a vampire. The book concludes with Henry and Abraham attending Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech, "I have a dream" at the Lincoln Memorial.

I am looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out on June 29th! Oops!  I meant the 22nd!

Hawaiian Turkey Burgers

I saw Courtney’s Hawaiian Chicken Burger recipe the other day and decided to create a similar burger with ingredients I already had in my kitchen. They turned out to be delicious!

P&P Produce

P&P Produce has been around since before I was born. I use to go with my mom and grandmother to get vegetables here. Their original location was destroyed in the tornado. They moved to this location and reopened. I went for the first time at this location last week. Sorry for the extremely blurry iPhone pictures.

New Camera Lens!

I just got a new lens for my camera! It’s the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S and I love it!  Here are just a few pictures I have taken with it. When the lens came in I was at the office so I went around taking pictures of all the flowers in our yard.

WIAW #12

Below is a hodgepodge of some of the things I have eaten since the last WIAW post I did.

IMG_2765

While in Mobile at Trey’s, we decided to cook dinner. We made a casserole with random things we found in the fridge/pantry. It turned out pretty good!

Shamrock Rose and Thistle_2

Also, while in Mobile we ate at Shamrock Rose & Thistle.

My first trip to Whole Foods was a success!

Breakfast bowl with cheese grits, chicken sausage and a fried (dippy) egg on top.

IMG_2868

I made Hawaiian Turkey Burgers. Recipe will be shared soon!

IMG_2871

Red Velvet Cupcakes! Truth be told I only ate one of the 24 cupcakes I made. I gave them away all week. I like the whole baking/making sweets process more than I like to eat sweets.

O'Henry's_2

An unexpected trip to Homewood led to a cup of O’Henry’s coffee!

What have you been eating lately?
