Currently | February 2013

Loving: My pretty quilt Perry made for me and Shirley Temples. I have always liked them but I have been having one at least once a day. I make mine with Diet 7Up with a splash or two of Rose's Grenadine. So good and I just love that it's pink.

Reading: I am finished with A Clash of Kings. It is about time! I have started on Divergent by Veronica Roth. So far it is really good.

Watching: Same shows as last month. I did watch the whole first season of Downton Abbey on Netflix. You should too if you haven't already.

Anticipating:  Seeing Trey next! Not sure when we will see each other but soon, I hope!

Listening to: NPR in the car but that's about all lately.

Planning: March and April are full of things happening on the weekends. I am trying to plan and make sure I can travel to all the wedding showers, crawfish boils, etc.

Working on: Finding a house I like and then praying it is not sold until I get a chance to buy it!

Wishing: Time would slow down just a little. Weeks have been flying by. I can't believe it is already March! I feel like 2013 just got here.

Thankful: I am not sick anymore. One whole week of February was spent sick. I had not been sick in so long I had forgotten how it felt. Let me just tell you, I do not like it one bit! By the middle of the week when the medicine my doctor gave me hadn't gotten me better yet, I went and bought a humidifier, Vick's humidifier pads, Vick's Vapor Rub, Simply Saline (this really awesome can of cold saline you squirt up your nose in the shower that feels like heaven to your sinuses), orange juice, Benadryl, cough drops and possibly a few other sinus/cold remedies. Out of all that something did the trick. With all that said, I am very VERY thankful I am no longer sick.

What are you currently loving, reading, watching, anticipating, listening to, planning, working on, wishing, thankful for, etc.?

Book Review | A Clash of Kings

After quite a few months I have finished A Clash of Kings. It was good and I can't wait to see what happens next but I am going to take a break from this series and read a few other books that I have been wanting to read. It takes so long to finish a book in this series that my to-read shelf is overflowing with books I have purchased. I have tried reading more than one book at a time but it doesn't work out. I can't drag myself away from one book to read another.

I still like that Martin organizes the book's chapters by characters. I find my self racing to get to a certain character's chapter to see what happens next in their part of the story. Some of the chapters do get a little boring and it feels like parts are dragged out more than needed but the story is just too good to stop reading.

Publisher's Synopsis
In this thrilling sequel to A Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin has created a work of unsurpassed vision, power, and imagination. A Clash of Kings transports us to a world of revelry and revenge, wizardry and warfare unlike any we have ever experienced.

A comet the color of blood and flame cuts across the sky. And from the ancient citadel of Dragonstone to the forbidding shores of Winterfell, chaos reigns. Six factions struggle for control of a divided land and the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms, preparing to stake their claims through tempest, turmoil, and war. It is a tale in which brother plots against brother and the dead rise to walk in the night. Here a princess masquerades as an orphan boy; a knight of the mind prepares a poison for a treacherous sorceress; and wild men descend from the Mountains of the Moon to ravage the countryside. Against a backdrop of incest and fratricide, alchemy and murder, victory may go to the men and women possessed of the coldest steel . . . and the coldest hearts. For when kings clash, the whole land trembles.

Have you ever read/watched any of the Game of Thrones series? If so, what did you think?

Next I am starting Divergent by Veronica Roth. I have heard so many good things about this book. Have you ever read Divergent? Did you like it?

Chicken Salad Chick | Tuscaloosa, AL

Chicken Salad Chick is a fairly new restaurant in town. We picked it up for lunch one time at the office.  I ordered the Chick Trio and chose Buffalo Barclay, Sassy Scotty and Olivia's Old South. Buffalo Barclay had a buffalo wing taste, Sassy Scotty had bacon, ranch and cheddar cheese mixed in and Olivia's Old South was the traditional egg and pickles. I liked these chicken salads because none of them had a lot of mayonnaise in them. I think next time I will choose one of the fruity chicken salads on a croissant.

Cheddars | Mobile, AL

Last month while in Mobile Trey and I ate at Cheddars. To be honest we ate dinner there and then ate lunch again there the next day with one of his friends. We are getting one in Tuscaloosa so I wanted to try it out. I can't wait for it to open. They have a lot of menu items. They also have some good drinks too.

Glory Bound Gyro Co. | Tuscaloosa, AL

I had been wanting to try Glory Bound Gyro Co. for a while now. While Trey was in town we decided to try something new. I ordered the Pineapple Fusion drink. It was really really good. Trey and I ordered the Loaded Cottage Fries - hand cut potatoes topped with melted mozzarella cheese and crispy bacon.  For our meals Trey ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad - grilled chicken tossed in buffalo sauce served on a bed of mixed greens topped with onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, crispy bacon and feta cheese served with ranch dressing and I ordered the Gyro Plate -  seared chicken, hummus (I chose the Garlic-Basil flavor) warm pita bread, lettuce, sautéed onions, homemade tzatziki and grilled veggies. Everything tasted great. There were no grilled veggies on my plate but there was so much food I didn't ask about it. The sautéed onions were under the chicken and they had such a great sweet taste. I ended up taking a lot of leftovers home for Trey's snack. I can not wait to go back and try some of their other dishes.

Mobile Mystic's Mardi Gras Ball

Another Mardi Gras has come around which means another Mardi Gras ball! Trey and I went to the Mobile Mystic's Ball on February 2nd. I spent over an hour trying to get my hair to curl so I had to take a picture for proof. Once we stepped out of the hotel the curls disappeared. The ball was fun and afterwards we got a limo ride back to the hotel which was very nice and unexpected. During the ball we also got to sit at one of the Queen's table. The Queen this year was Megan, Trey's friend Brandon's little sister. That was a great experience in itself. Her train was gorgeous and so was she! I didn't get a good picture of it but you at least get an idea. Now I am already looking forward to next year's Mardi Gras.

Sarah + Drew's Wedding Weekend | Part 2

Sarah and Drew's wedding was so much fun! We even got to meet and take pictures with Santa Sarah's cousin. The ceremony was on January 26th at Oyster Bay Baptist Church and the reception was at the Craft Farm's Clubhouse in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The food was delicious. They had a macaroni and cheese bar, mashed potato bar and lots of other yummy things including a Krispy Kreme donut cake made by Drew and the groomsmen the night before the wedding. Sarah looked beautiful and everything went smoothly. I call that a great wedding!

Sarah + Drew's Wedding Weekend | Part 1

Sarah reserved an amazing condo in Gulf Shores for her bridal party to stay in for her wedding weekend. The view from the condo was gorgeous. Somehow Anna and I were lucky and were given the master suite with a huge bathroom, California King and balcony. Thank you Sarah! We had such a fun weekend.
