Kylie's Bachelorette Weekend | Part 1

Back in May I went to Nashville for Kylie's Bachelorette Weekend. We went on The Redneck Comedy Bus Tour. It was pretty funny. It was definitely a lot funnier than the website made it look.

Book | Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was so good! I can't believe I have been missing out for so long. Not much else to say about the book since pretty much everyone else in the world has either already read the book or watched the movie. I really want to watch the movies again and actually know what is going on. I am bad at being able to watch a long movie and keep up or not fall asleep.

Publisher's Synopsis

The Dursleys were so mean that hideous that summer that all Harry Potter wanted was to get back to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. But just as he's packing his bags, Harry receives a warning from a strange, impish creature named Dobby who says that if Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike.

And strike it does. For in Harry's second year at Hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up new professor, Gilderoy Lockheart, a spirit named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls' bathroom, and the unwanted attentions of Ron Weasley's younger sister, Ginny.

But each of these seem minor annoyances when the real trouble begins, and someone--or something--starts turning Hogwarts students to stone. Could it be Draco Malfoy, a more poisonous rival than ever? Could it possibly be Hagrid, whose mysterious past is finally told? Or could it be the one everyone at Hogwarts most suspects...Harry Potter himself?

Weekend Snapshots | June 7-9, 2013

I honestly do not think a single person that lived in the house before me ever washed their driveway. It was nasty.

This was the messiest thing ever. Thank goodness we put down plastic shower curtains first. We just rolled the mess up and threw it in the dumpster.

Wow, this past weekend was the most productive weekend I have had in a long time. Probably has something to do with it was my first weekend in town in a while. I got a lot done to the house. Mom was there the whole time and helped me.

This was my to do list for the weekend:
  • sand and paint dresser
  • paint master bath
  • install new shower curtain rod (thanks to my cousin Timmy)
  • install bathroom hardware
  • install new kitchen faucet (also, thanks to Timmy)
  • sand, strip varnish and paint nightstand
  • pressure wash driveway
  • cut grass and spray weed killer
  • clean up plants around mailbox
  • paint both halls
  • finish organizing filing
  • trim shrubs and dig up Crepe Myrtles
  • washed light fixtures
  • catch up on blog posts (I don't think I opened my laptop once except to look for new knobs for my dresser and nightstand)

New Part-Time Job

When will it ever stop raining? Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good summer storm but not when I have so much I need to get done. Summer storms are good when you can be lazy and snuggle up with a comfy blanket, cup of coffee and a good book.

Who knew buying a house meant taking on a part-time job as a landscaper? I sure didn't. Now with all this rain I have weeds and trees growing from every direction. I have Crepe Myrtles growing out of my shrubs and weeds taking over what little grass I have. I am praying for some sunshine tomorrow before my neighbors have me kicked out for my unruly yard. Also, hopefully I will magically become an expert at lawn care before tomorrow because I sure as heck don't know what I am doing!

Southland | Cottondale, AL

There isn't a time I can remember not knowing about Southland. Growing up, when everyone would go over to Granny's for family get-togethers we would go pick up a box of 30 (yes, I have a big family on both my Mom and my Dad's side) or so cheese stuffed potatoes to have with our food that was cooked at Granny's. Southland is very close to my heart, well as close as a restaurant can be. When food is attached to a memory just the smell of it can bring those memories back in an instant. It is so sad not having those get-togethers anymore, but at least I can still go eat at Southland and reminisce.

So, if  you are ever in town and need a good southern place to eat Southland is one of your best bets. They are known for their cheese mountain and hamburger steaks. I like to think the best way to eat both of these is to order the hamburger steak without gravy and mushrooms, take a hunk of the cheese mountain and lay it on top of the hamburger steak and then drown it in their Woody's Sauce (see picture above). They also have a salad bar that is pretty tasty. To wash it all down you have to order their sweet tea, unless you are a diabetic then I'd say stay far away from the sweet tea.
