Washington, D.C.–Day of Tours

The Thursday we were in DC we spent the entire day touring. The first tour was of the White House. We couldn’t take pictures inside so the first two pictures are all we took. Getting through security and waiting in line took around 30 minutes. The tour itself was less than 20 minutes. It was self-guided. We looked in all of the available rooms which were the Library, Vermeil Room, China Room, East Room, Green Room, Blue Room, Red Room and State Dining Room. It was a neat experience but I was kind of let down. It was not at all what I expected, which I am not really sure what I expected it to be like. But if you get the chance you should absolutely take a tour of the White House.

After the White House we went to the National Aquarium until it was time for our tour of the Capitol. I am saving that for another post. Lots of pictures.

The white star shape above is in the center of the Capitol dome. It is the center-most point in DC. All of the streets are coordinated and planned off of this point. Pretty neat I thought.

After our Capitol tour we headed across the street in search of lunch. As soon as we crossed the police drove up and evacuated the area putting yellow tape around it. We are still not sure what happened or if it was just a practice run. It was neat to see how efficient and fast they evacuated the area.

We grabbed flatbreads at Cosi’s. I ordered the Bacon Turkey Cheddar Melt. It was simple and really good.

The last tour for the day was my favorite, the Library of Congress.

For dinner, we went to Austin Grill. I ordered the Raspberry Paloma and the Fish Tacos. Everything was delicious.
