Mobile Mystic's Mardi Gras Ball

Another Mardi Gras has come around which means another Mardi Gras ball! Trey and I went to the Mobile Mystic's Ball on February 2nd. I spent over an hour trying to get my hair to curl so I had to take a picture for proof. Once we stepped out of the hotel the curls disappeared. The ball was fun and afterwards we got a limo ride back to the hotel which was very nice and unexpected. During the ball we also got to sit at one of the Queen's table. The Queen this year was Megan, Trey's friend Brandon's little sister. That was a great experience in itself. Her train was gorgeous and so was she! I didn't get a good picture of it but you at least get an idea. Now I am already looking forward to next year's Mardi Gras.

Mobile Mystic's Parade

I love parades. We went to the Mobile Mystics parade on February 2nd. The floats and costumes are pretty amazing. It is also fun to people watch at these events ha. You never know what you will see.

Blushing Mimosas & an Engagement Party

So a lot is going on in this post because a lot has gone on since last time I posted!

Yeah… I’m still celebrating Mardi Gras. I have already taken down my wreath but hadn’t put the beads up yet.

I knew I had to try the Blushing Mimosa as soon as I saw the recipe in my inbox from My Recipes.

This weekend a few of my friends and myself threw Perry a surprise engagement party on Saturday! We have been planning it since the day she got engaged! I think it was a great success! First, we started with brunch at The Waysider.

We waited outside for about 45 minutes which was no big deal. They were packed. Hence, why I didn’t take a picture of the building myself. People were everywhere! Good sign right?

Half right, if that makes since. We got in and seated. Our waitress took our drink order and brought us all waters. Then we got overlooked for 45 minutes. Yes they were busy but people that were seated after us got their drinks, biscuits and food before us. Finally after asking someone else that wasn’t working just helping out we got our drinks and biscuits. They serve all you can eat little homemade biscuits while you wait for your food.

An hour after being seated we got our food. I ordered a short stack, 1/4 order hashbrowns and turkey bacon. The turkey bacon was terrible. The flavor was just gross. The hashbrowns were good. The pancakes were amazing. I would say The Waysider is more of an atmosphere type place. If you live in Tuscaloosa or visit for football games then it’s a place you should go at least once. It is 50/50 with the service though. I have been before and we had no problems at all and the food was great. If you have plenty of time I’d say give it a try but if you are in a hurry just run to the grocery store and make your own breakfast!

After brunch/lunch I had to waste time with Perry until time to head to the party. This was not hard at all since we are expert time wasters! We strolled around and shopped.

Here are some pictures from the party!

Mardi Gras 2012

Yesterday I went to the Crewe of Columbus Ball with Trey. It was a lot of fun!

Above are pictures from callouts.
Fly By Radio was one of the bands that played. They are a really good 80s cover band.
Here are two small video clips from last night.

They have such great energy! If you ever have a chance to see them somewhere I definitely would!
They post pictures from the night on their website so I will post them once they have uploaded them.

For the food, well it got eaten before I thought to take a picture… If you have never been to this ball, the food does not let you down. Each room has different food and there are at least 10-14 rooms. We only made it to two rooms. I tried meatballs, jambalaya, chicken salad, spinach dips (a hot and a cold version), crab cakes and not sure what all else I had a bite of. One room had mudslides for a drink and it was amazing.

I hope everyone is having a great Saturday. I was going to head home this morning but I am still in Mobile since it has been pouring all day and now we are under a tornado warning. Not driving weather at all! I hope everyone is staying safe and having a great Saturday night. I have a lot more to catch you up on but no time tonight!

Mardi Gras Parades & Balls

Mardi Gras is coming up! A month from today I will be going to my 5th Mardi Gras ball in Mobile. The one I will be going to this year is a lot of fun. They have it in the Civic Center. Every room has different types of food. And let me just tell you, there are a lot of rooms. Last year my favorite room was the one with mini crab cakes and shrimp & grits. They have live bands and karaoke set up in different areas.

Here are pictures from previous Mardi Gras balls and parades.

Questions:
  • Have you ever been to a Mardi Gras Ball in Mobile, AL?
  • What about one in New Orleans?
I have never been to one in NOLA. I think they would be way too wild and crazy for me.
